Space Day 2010

We took a break from organisms today to celebrate space. The eighth grade science classes were visited by Lockheed Martin. Hopefully you learrned about the different careers available in the field of space and technology. We even had a chance to investigate the forces that work against a helicopter. To learn more about Space Day visit http://www.spaceday.org/

The microscope quiz has been pushed back to Monday. Use the weekend to review your vocabulary. I am also collecting Student Sheet 3.1 (Blackworm lab) on Monday. Use pages 34-38 in the textbook to help you answer the questions.

Relationships in the ecosystem

Through a class activity, we discovered that organisms can share a relationship with one another. This is called symbiosis. We looked at 3 specific forms: mutualism (+/+), commensalism (+/0), and parasitism (+/-). The signs in parentheses show how the organism either benefits or not benefits.

HW: Complete both sides of the worksheet. Use your notes to help you.

Test on Friday: Living/Nonliving environment and taxonomy. A study guide will be given to help you organize your notes to study from

The remainder of this week will be dedicated to prepping for the NJASK 8 Science. Please ask me for help on concepts you need help with.

Organisms!

We are moving into our last unit....ORGANISMS!

Starting last week we began looking at various types of organisms. We then discovered what all living things must do (called life processes).

In class we looked at how scientists name organisms. Tomorrow we will go a little further into naming and look at TAXONOMY! (This is where you will need to bring in your MP3/CD).

HW! Complete the Martian and Car worksheet. (See class links if you left it in school)
