Catastrophic Events Project!

We are rapidly finishing up our unit on catastrophic events. To show off what you have learned you will be choosing one project from a choice board. All projects are to be done by Dec 2 for full credit. Also, this is an independent project. I am available after school for one on one help. Flying through forces

Which only means it must be time for a project!

All students are guests in this Science Cafe. Students received their menus today after taking the test. Each student's goal is to "purchase" $25 worth of "dishes". Dishes get purchased by completing the specified task.  Everyone must have an appetizer, a beverage and a dessert. Entree and salads are optional. All tasks, excluding entrees, are individual effort. Only the entree may be a group effort. A group may be up to 4 students from any of my period 1, 2 or 4 classes. Dishes may be turned in as they are completed. All dishes are due no later than March 17.

Investigating forces and such

So began our unit on energy and motion. In class, you completed 8 activities that will relate to our studies during our unit. Be sure to complete your observations and be prepared to share them tomorrow.

Also, I am collecting your MOS logs no later than January 22. Start working!

I am still missing a few projects...if you are one of the missing, GET ON IT!!

Splat!

In class we collected our data on drop height vs. splatter size. For homework you need to finish writing your lab report.

Happy New Year!

I had a very relaxing break and sure hope you had the same. Now it is back to the grind!

With the new year we start a new unit...Energy, Machines and Motion. To get us prepared for our upcoming investigations we began with an investigation on splatter size of water. We will use this investigation to write up a lab report to share our findings. In class today, we wrote out the materials and procedures. Tomorrow we will conduct the lab.

Reminder:

• Test corrections due Wednesday
• Textbooks are being collected.

Project update

Due to the snow day on Monday the deadline to submit projects for full credit has been pushed back. ALL PROJECTS FOR FULL CREDIT ARE DUE JANUARY 6, 2010.

We will use class time on 12/22 and 12/23 to work on the project. Please come prepared to work and with any questions you may have.

When we return on Monday, January 5, we will start our new unit on Energy, Machines, and Motion. Please return your Catastrophic Events books to me ASAP!

Also test corrections will be due January 6. See Class Assignments for criteria and form.

Mercalli Scale

We observed 2 ways to look at the intensity of an earthquake: qualitatively and quantitatively. The Richter Scale assigns numbers to determine the magnitude. The Mercalli Scale assigns a value based on the intensity.

Your task is to create a poster illustrating your assigned value. Poster are due Monday, October 26, for a quiz grade!
