How much power do you do?

Yes, I made you do some exercise today! The purpose of making you run up the back stairs was to see how much power you used. Check out this link to compare your power output to some common household items. Scroll down. The list is on the right hand side. http://michaelbluejay.com/electricity/howmuch.html

Continue reviewing for your test. As of right now, test is still Friday. IF it nows and there is no school Thursday, THEN the test will be moved to Tuesday. Stay posted!

In class we finished up Lesson 9: Power and Batteries. For homework tonight use your data to complete 2 graphs. See procedures #8 and #14 on page 86. Also be sure to complete A-G on page 86.

Test Friday on lessons 5-9. Start reviewing:
  • Forces (friction, gravity, mass, weight)
  • Circuits (open, closed, series, parallel)
  • Calculating work and power

What is work?

What we consider work and scientists consider work are 2 different things. In class I reviewed how to calculate work if given force and distance. Please review the problems you worked on in class on Wednesday and complete Student Sheet 8.1b. Do not complete 8.2. That is for Friday's lab.

***The quiz scheduled for Friday has been rescheduled for Monday***

Circuit review

It seems like ages ago we were here (thank you Mother Nature!). We reviewed different types of electrical circuits: series vs. parallel. To practice making your own circuits check out the link below.

HW Tonight!: Write a paragraph describing the hardest work you have ever done. Explain what you did, what forces were being used, and what could you have done to make the work easier on you.

There will be a quiz on Friday on circuits and work. (We have not covered work yet-- that is Wed. and Thurs. lessons).

Snow Day!

Enjoy sleeping in tomorrow BUT don't forget to be working on your take home quiz. Have a question about the quiz? Email or tweet me.

Reminder that all quizzes are due the day we return. No quizzes will be accepted late. Late quizzes will result in a new quiz to be given during lunch or after school next week (and no notes being used...YIKES!)

Winter Olympics and Science

The 2010 Winter Olympics are quickly approaching. Check out this link for the science behind the games. HINT: Watch some videos and write about what you learn for your MOS logs. There are some great connections behind the sports and what we are learning in class.
